BES Utilities shortlisted for top business customer service award

BES Utilities has been named as a finalist in the 'Treating Customers Fairly' category at this year's prestigious Utilities & Telecoms Awards.

To be shortlisted companies have to prove their commitment to putting customers first. This includes instilling a culture of fair treatment within the organisation, setting clear expectations to staff, measuring performance and demonstrating fair outcomes for consumers.

We have worked extremely hard over the past year to further enhance our customer service, including investing significantly in new systems and processes to improve the overall experience. We have also rolled out a new 'Treating Customers Fairly Charter' which includes face-to-face staff training and regular monitoring to ensure service teams are up to speed with key policy and product knowledge.

With ourselves being a smaller, independent and family-run energy group, to be nominated for the award is a fantastic achievement, particularly being up against such major industry players as British Gas and npower.

Damien Fryer, Head of Operations, said, "To be shortlisted for this award against some of the 'Big Six' energy companies is thrilling, as it recognises the hard work and commitment of all our people to ensure customers get the best possible service. We're especially excited to have been selected as finalists, as this is the first time we've entered this award."

Two new senior appointments at BES Utilities

We are pleased to announce two new senior appointments, Matthew Walker and Joel Chapman.

Matthew Walker joins as group Chief Technical Officer. Matthew is a highly experienced IT leader, having previously been deputy CIO for Demos Group, where he spearheaded international strategy planning and IT roadmaps for the Paris based organisation. Prior to Demos, Matthew was global head of IT for the Hemsley Fraser Group, where he developed a single global IT strategy for the firm.

Joining BES Utilities as head of industry regulations and compliance is Joel Chapman. Joel has worked in the SME energy industry for over 12 years, in roles covering stakeholder relations, regulatory compliance and PR. He brings a wealth of experience of dealing with non-domestic energy regulation, including complaint handling, debt and disconnection and back billing. As well as being involved with high profile regulatory issues, PR and Parliament, Joel is well known amongst suppliers and stakeholders, including the Energy Ombudsman and the Citizens Advice consumer service.

BES Commercial Electricity is the 'power behind the lights'

Blackpool's world-famous Illuminations will be powered up by BES Commercial Electricity for the next two years thanks to a deal that has been signed today.

Fylde coast group, BES Utilities, has now signed a deal to provide electricity for free in 2014 and at half price in 2015. Based on current consumption figures the deal equates to more than 100,000 making BES Commercial Electricity the biggest contributor to the lights for the last ten years.

Andy Pilley, Managing Director, said, "I've wanted to do this for a while, so I'm absolutely delighted we have signed the contract and we are now the proud energy supplier of the Blackpool Illuminations 'The power behind the lights!'".

Michelle Davidson, Director, said, "We supply electricity to tens of thousands of businesses nationally as well as hundreds throughout the Blackpool area and there is a clear benefit that the Illuminations bring to residents and businesses on the Fylde coast. It helps our customers whether they are hoteliers, restaurants or local suppliers and I can't think of a more fitting link than us as an electricity provider and Blackpool Council who deliver the Illuminations."

Cllr Graham Cain, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, said, "Each year we spend in excess of 2 million on the Illuminations. We view it as vitally important to the economy of the town as a whole. When the lights are on businesses large and small benefit but in order for the show to continue change and develop we do need support from visitors and local businesses.

"I'm thrilled that BES Commercial Electricity is sponsoring the Illuminations in this way and I hope it marks the start of more local businesses following their lead. The money that this deal saves us will go towards the design and installation of new features in the Illuminations."

This year the six mile display will run from Friday 29 August to Sunday 9 November.

BES Utilities Price Freeze

As price freezing becomes the strategy-du-jour for energy companies, we can announce that we have been way ahead of the game for months - and will continue to be so - with electricity prices for our customers remaining locked since April 2013. Our prices will remain set for our customers until at least October this year: which means a steady 18 months of worry free bills for customers.

BES is attacking gas prices too by freezing those prices until at least the upcoming winter months. The BES Gas budget plan already shakes up the market by running a fixed monthly billing system to help customers plan energy consumption as a flat rate across the year so all this will come as welcome news to small businesses worrying about rising overheads and an uncertain economic climate.

We can announce our long-term commitment to business users this week as controversy over responsible energy pricing hits new heights. Our newly appointed CEO, Ben Jones, explains why our commitment to our customers is a genuinely user-focused strategy:

"BES Utilities are 100% committed to enabling small businesses in the UK to plan and grow without the unpredictability of energy costs.

Our decision to price freeze is transparent and customer focused. It is worth noting that bigger providers who operate in the Domestic market have historically been subject to the cost of wider government charges, such as the ECO levy, for some time.

Recent announcements have failed to highlight that such levies have been dramatically reduced by the coalition government meaning that the Big Six are in prime position to pass savings back on to the consumer. As a smaller independent supplier, we were never subject to these charges and so our freeze on pricing is a customer driven initiative only to encourage British business growth."

UK Floods

Many BES Utilities customers have been affected by the terrible floods across the country; luckily the UK government has a dedicated 10million support scheme to businesses that have been flooded, and to businesses that have suffered significant loss of trade due to the natural disaster.

Since 1998 there has been at least one serious flood every year, SMEs such as our customers are more likely to be flooded that ruined by fire. As out climate changes, we can expect to see more dangerous weather resulting in more floods!

On the 20th February the allocations of the 10million support scheme to local authorities will be confirmed!

BES raise almost 3000 for the Trinity Hospice charity.

Members of staff attended the Corporate Challenge Celebration Lunch on Friday 15th November 2013 which featured over 20 businesses and in total raised 47,500.00.

The overall challenge was won by The Partington Group who raised a massive 17,000.00 with Inenco the runners up with 4,500.00. The total raised by BES was 2915.33.

BES Utilities were presented with the award for 'Inspiring Individual Team' as we were the first business to host an event on 1st August 2013 (1st day of the challenge).

BES Commercial Electricity price freeze puts pressure on the Big Six

With Britain's largest energy suppliers expected to announce price increases ahead of winter, BES Commercial Electricity has announced a price freeze on their electricity tariffs until spring 2014. This month SSE, Centrica and npower have already announced an increase in their tariffs and other suppliers are expected to follow suit in the coming days. However, the BES Commercial Electricity price guarantee gives customers peace of mind, ensuring they can continue to focus on their businesses without having to worry about increasing electricity costs.

"The likelihood of further electricity price increases from the Big Six suppliers will undoubtedly increase the pressure on small businesses who are already struggling with rising costs. BES Utilities recruitment open day success

More than 130 potential new employees visited BES's offices on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd August 2013.

The two day recruitment event was an open invitation for talented individuals to learn more about the company and its career opportunities in business administration, finance, credit control and sales.

The Group of companies supply electricity and gas and provides telecommunication services to commercial businesses. Due to the continued growth and success of the business, BES are looking to provide people from the local community with job opportunities.

Michelle Davidson commented, "We had a great response from the local area to the recruitment fair with over 60 potential candidates attending the administration day and over 70 attending the sales open day. The two day event was a tremendous success and we want to thank everyone who turned up and patiently waited to be seen."

BES Utilities supports corporate challenge at Trinity Hospice

BES Utilities is delighted to support the Trinity Hospice Corporate Challenge. The challenge is open to companies across the Fylde Coast and each team of employees will be given 50 cash with the task of growing this amount as much as possible within a 3 month period.

The challenge started on August 1st and BES has so far raised over 2,000 from a number of fund raising activities including dress down days, cake sales and raffles.

With one month left of the challenge, BES Utilities have further fund raising events lined up with the aim to raise as much as possible for Trinity Hospice.

Trinity Hospice provides specialist care for adults and children who have life threatening or life limiting illnesses within the Fylde Coast area. Trinity's compassionate care is reliant on donations from its supporters and BES Utilities is thrilled to be a part of this charity.
